Before you head out:
fall dog-walk checklist

A practical list for a short local outing. Adapt it to your dog, route, weather, and veterinary advice.

Before leaving

• Confirm dogs are permitted on the exact route; check leash rules and closures.
• Check the forecast and sunset. Set a conservative turnaround.
• Choose a distance and surface appropriate for your dog.

In your day bag

• Drinking water and a familiar bottle or bowl.
• Leash, waste bags, and identification.
• A working light, charged phone, and needed route information.
• Suitable footwear, layers for you, and a towel for afterward.

On the walk and afterward

• Give your dog breaks; turn back if conditions or comfort change.
• Respect wildlife, other visitors, and local restrictions.
• Check paws and inspect for ticks after outdoor time.
